Printing Process
Submitting Artwork
Accepted File Types:
Most simply put, artwork to be reproduced comes in one of three formats: vector, raster, and hard copy.
Hard copy: Hard copy should be on a white background, 11 x 17 or smaller. All lines should be crisp and clear, pencil should be avoided and, unless the artwork is being reproduced digitally, shading should be as well.
Vector Art, most commonly in Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand, CorelDraw (MAC/WindowsPC) - PC files - All fonts must be converted to outlines. MAC files - All fonts must be converted to outlines or the font files must be included. Images of photos or drawings placed into an AI file may not be useable, unless the design is being reproduce digitally. Please save CorelDraw files as Adobe Illustrator. Colors other than black should be spot colors, not CMYK. TIFFs should be sent as such, not embedded in Illustrator files.
-Adobe Photoshop(MAC/WinPC) - Image size should be 4"x4" for small designs and up to 13"x13" for large designs. Resolution should be 300 dpi. Image type should be BMP(Bitmap) for black and white images. Multi-color spot images should have each color placed on a separate layer. Black and white designs to which we are going to add colors should have all areas where color is to be added sealed.
-Quark Express 3.32, AdobePagemaker, and Microsoft Word and Powerpoint: These programs are really designed for other purposes, not for graphic prepress output. Please provide your files in their original format or eps.

COMMON MISTAKES AND MISPERCEPTIONS ABOUT WEBSITE ARTWORK:
JPG AND GIF at 72 dpi are the 2 main web page image formats. It is usually not possible for us to work with art at such a low resolution. On a computer monitor these images appear crisp and clean. However, when these images are enlarged for printing the end result is an inferior bumpy, dotted and pixelated image. The old adage, Garbage in, Garbage out, applies here. The final results you will get will only be as good as the source material. Our art staff can use these images for reference only, rarely as final press-ready copy.
